Far too often, homophobia in the black community has been met with relative silence by black LGBTs.
That is why I was so happy to see last week’s ad from black gay activists rebutting the latest crazed statements by Donnie McClurkin. For those unfamiliar with the “ex-gay” preacher’s outburst, he recently gave a speech condemning gays and lesbians during a convention in Memphis.
Rather than sit back and let McClurkin go unchallenged, a group of black gays took out an ad in the Metro NY that speaks to the hypocrisy of the black church and the impact of spiritual violence on black LGBTs.
This is a much-needed statement of strength and pride from the black LGBT community. Let’s hope that other organizations and people are inspired to speak up when foolishness rears its ugly head!
Please check the ad here.
