Foxxjazell Speaks With The WeHo News

on June 7th, 2010 by B.Graff

Many hip-hop fans are familiar with the idea of “the gay rapper” thanks to books like Hiding in Hip Hop: On the Down Low in the Entertainment Industry, documentaries like Pick Up The Mic, and years of speculation about various performers.

But I think it’s safe to say most people were unfamiliar with Foxxjazell, hailed as the world’s first transgender rapper, until Bossip posted one of her videos.

The comments on Bossip contained a good amount of ignorance mixed in with positive reactions. In any event, I think it is good for people to see the diversity of the black LGBT community.

Foxjazell recently spoke with WeHo News in California. I recommend reading the interview, where she discusses her inspiration, experience with her family, and the new album Boy, Girl, Whateva. Foxjazell has put a lot of thought into her career, and I think she is a great role model for the LGBT community.

Here are the videos for her song “Ride Or Die” boy in the original and remix versions. The remix features Lasto, Nano Reyes, and Shorty Roc, all prominent figures in the gay rap scene.
