on February 12th, 2010 by B.Graff

New Hampshire is currently debating HB1590, which would repeal the state’s marriage equality laws.
Representative Nancy Elliott, a Republican, saw this as an opportunity to go into a lengthy description of anal sex as a way of explaining why she supports the bill.
You’ll have to watch the video to get her statement in [...]

Words From A Gay Ugandan

on February 4th, 2010 by B.Graff

For the past few months I have been writing about the horrendous proposal to criminalize LGBTs in Uganda.
President Obama and Hilary Clinton both spoke against the bill at the National Prayer Breakfast, but a gay Ugandan offered his opinion at a competing event, the American Prayer Hour. View the clip below.

How Will Gay Republicans Spin This?

on February 3rd, 2010 by B.Graff

Since the 1990s, gay Republicans have remained loyal to their party in spite of a platform that opposes marriage equality, adoption rights, open military service, employment protections, and most other items of interest for the LGBT community.
When asked why they continued to support people who don’t support them, the rationale was that they were changing [...]

Sally Kern Wants To Control Heterosexual Marriage Too

on January 5th, 2010 by B.Graff

Oklahoma Republican legislator Sally Kern is infamous for her rabid homophobia, once stating that gays posed a bigger threat to the nation than terrorists.
She now has her sights on restricting divorce for heterosexuals.

* [...]

on December 13th, 2009 by B.Graff

Congratulations are definitely in order to Annise Parker, who won a run off election in the Houston mayoral race.
With the victory, Houston becomes the largest city to be governed by an openly gay person.

Progress In Uganda

on December 10th, 2009 by B.Graff

There is an update to the heinous situation for LGBTs in Uganda.
Thanks in part to pressure, including condemnation from a leader of the Ugandan Anglican Church and Canada and Britain, and the bill has been revised to remove the death penalty and imprisonment for LGBTs.
While the White House never made a formal statement, [...]

More Disappointment From Obama

on December 10th, 2009 by B.Graff

Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize earlier today.
His nomination for the award was shrouded in controversy from the day it was announced. What had he done to deserve such an honor? Was it an example of people being blinded by Obama’s magnetic, rock-star persona? Did the Nobel committee choose Obama to [...]

The Cobell Settlement and Reparations

on December 9th, 2009 by B.Graff

In a major development, the U.S. government has admitted to committing financial crimes against Native Americans.
Acknowledging the Interior Department’s history of mismanaging royalties derived from commercial activities on the 56 million acres of land owned by tribes and individuals, the federal government has proposed a settlement of over $3 billion and the creation of a [...]

Positive Political Developments

on December 5th, 2009 by B.Graff

Despite New York’s rejection of marriage equality, there was some good news for LGBT politics this week.
During the debate in the New York Senate, eloquent and passionated speeches were made by Senators Ruth Hassell-Thompson and Eric Adams. Their statements brought a ray of sunshine to a disappointing day, and can be viewed below.

Considering that [...]
